We departed via the international route Paso de Jama, making our first stop at the base of the Licancabur volcano. From there, we headed towards Kipiaco Lagoon, where we made a photo stop and enjoyed a coffee while observing Andean birds such as flamingos and Andean gulls (Guayata), as well as vicuñas, foxes, and other wildlife. We then continued our journey to visit the Monks of Pacana, vertical stone sculptures sculpted by wind and rain erosion on the Altiplano. These structures measure approximately 15 meters in height. Next, we crossed over to the Cathedrals of Tara, incredible rock formations in the hills of the region. We then descended to the Tara Salt Flat and Lagoon, a lagoon that is home to flamingos and a water source for llamas, vicuñas, and foxes. With this beautiful scenery, we had lunch before returning to San Pedro.
