I.- CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
DAY 1: (SANTIAGO) – COPIAPÓ – VALLE CHICO
Arrival at Copiapó airport. Transfer to Valle Chico, where we will camp (3,000m). (L, D)
DAY 2: VALLE CHICO – LAGUNA STA ROSA
A short acclimatization hike in the vicinity of the campsite. The journey continues toward the high plateau (altiplano). Arrival at Laguna Santa Rosa (3,800m), where we can observe pink flamingos and the 6,753m-high Tres Cruces volcano. Setting up our camp. (B, L, D)
DAY 3: STA ROSA LAGOON (Trekking)
Acclimatization day at Laguna Santa Rosa. High-altitude trekking. Camping. (B, L, D)
DAY 4: SANTA ROSA LAGOON – GREEN LAGOON
We enter the high-plateau region. Along the way, we can see some of the highest volcanoes on the planet: Tres Cruces (6,753m), Incahuasi (6,621m), and Ojos del Salado (6,893m). We will camp near the natural hot springs by the beautiful Laguna Verde (4,400m). (B,L,D)
DAY 5: GREEN LAGOON (Trekking)
Rest day and acclimatization trek in the Laguna Verde area. (B, L, D)
DAY 6: LAGUNA VERDE – UNIVERSIDAD DE ATACAMA REFUGE
Ascent to Camp 1. Overnight stay at the Universidad de Atacama refuge (5,250m). (B, L, D)
DAY 7: UNIVERSIDAD DE ATACAMA REFUGE – TEJOS REFUGE – UNIVERSIDAD DE ATACAMA REFUGE
Carry to Tejos refuge (5,750m) and return to Atacama refuge. (B, L, D)
DAY 8: ATACAMA UNIVERSITY REFUGE – TEJOS REFUGE
Climb to camp 2 (Tejos shelter) and camp. (D,A,C)
DAY 9: TEJOS REFUGE – SUMMIT – TEJOS REFUGE
Ascent to the Salt Eye (6893m). Return to the Tejos shelter. (D,A,,C)
DAY 10: TEJOS REFUGE – GREEN LAGOON
Descent to Green Lagoon or second summit attempt. (D,A,C)
DAY 11: GREEN LAGOON – COPY
Return to Copiapó and transfer to the hotel (D,A)
DAY 12 COPY – (JAMES)
